Modern GI Bill Act
3/19/2025, 3:50 PM
Summary of Bill HR 967
Bill 119 hr 967, also known as the "Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2021," aims to amend title 38 of the United States Code to allow individuals who are entitled to Post-9/11 educational assistance to use that assistance to repay Federal student loans.
Currently, individuals who have served in the military and are eligible for Post-9/11 educational assistance can use this benefit to cover the costs of tuition, fees, and other educational expenses. However, this assistance cannot be used to repay Federal student loans that were taken out to finance their education.
This bill seeks to address this limitation by allowing veterans to use their Post-9/11 educational assistance to repay Federal student loans. This would provide veterans with more flexibility in how they can use their educational benefits and help alleviate the financial burden of student loan debt. Overall, Bill 119 hr 967 aims to support and empower veterans by expanding the ways in which they can utilize their educational benefits. It recognizes the sacrifices that veterans have made for our country and seeks to provide them with additional support as they transition back to civilian life.
