Fair Representation Amendment
1/30/2025, 1:09 PM
Summary of Bill HRES 11
The bill directs certain authorizing committees to review laws within their jurisdiction and identify areas where the Executive Branch has been given too much discretion in how those laws are applied. These committees are then required to submit proposed changes to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which will ultimately decide on the necessary modifications to eliminate this excessive discretion.
The goal of this legislation is to ensure that laws are applied consistently and fairly, without allowing for undue influence or interpretation by the Executive Branch. By requiring a thorough review and potential revision of laws that grant excessive discretion, the bill seeks to promote transparency and accountability in the application of laws within the US government. Overall, Bill 119 HRES 11 aims to strengthen the rule of law and uphold the principles of checks and balances within the US government by limiting the Executive Branch's ability to interpret and apply laws in a manner that may be inconsistent with congressional intent.
