Secure Rural Schools Reauthorization Act of 2025
3/28/2025, 8:06 AM
Summary of Bill HR 1383
Bill 119 HR 1383, also known as the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000, is a piece of legislation that aims to extend the provisions of the original act. The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act was initially passed in 2000 to provide financial assistance to rural counties that have a large amount of federal land within their borders.
The main purpose of the act is to help these counties offset the loss of revenue that occurs when federal lands are not subject to property taxes. This loss of revenue can have a significant impact on the ability of these counties to provide essential services to their residents, such as education, infrastructure, and public safety.
The act provides funding to these counties based on a formula that takes into account the amount of federal land within their borders and the revenue generated from that land. This funding is intended to help these counties maintain essential services and support local economies. Bill 119 HR 1383 seeks to extend the provisions of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act to ensure that these counties continue to receive the financial assistance they need. By extending the act, Congress aims to provide stability and support to rural communities that rely on federal lands for their economic well-being. Overall, Bill 119 HR 1383 is an important piece of legislation that aims to support rural counties that are impacted by the presence of federal lands within their borders. By extending the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, Congress is working to ensure that these counties have the resources they need to thrive and provide essential services to their residents.

As a proud Republican from KY, I cannot support this bill. It's just another example of government overreach and wasteful spending. We need to focus on cutting unnecessary programs, not extending them. This bill will only add to the national debt and burden hardworking taxpayers like myself. It's time for our elected officials to start making responsible decisions for the future of our country.
